What big beautiful eyes! I never seen one up close for real but have seen then in trees and on top of power polls. They sound awesome when you hear them if your by a fire or in the light. When your out in the dark woods at night its frightening!

I didn't even know they were common lol. The person holding this one said they are just nocturnal and you wouldn't know less you were familiar with them. lol I bet there could be some I just never knew it but it was nice to be see him he was really cute. you are lucky to meet them at night. that might be scary but it would be cool to hear him.

I was trying to find the sound they make but the closest I could find I guess is a barn owl [link] to scary sound that I hear. But we do hear screech owls [link] and alot of times a horned owl [link]

that was creepy lol. barn owl was pretty in a scary grace type way sounded like a spooky hissing. I never heard one. so maybe I am glad I haven't met one of those guys.

omg the screech was so cute. it was like the one I met he was so little lol and his call was neat.
I would love to see a horned owl. They are beautiful. I have morning doves that sometimes sound like the horned owl because they have a whoo type sound.

LOL. The adult barn owls are really loud at night and you can here them what seems like miles!

We have some doves in the pine trees behind our house and I guess I never thought of it but they do sound like a horned owl sometimes. =)
